Positive Sport Parent is the brainchild of two forward thinking, inspiring parents, Mary-Ann Dove and Mary-Jane Goebel, both who have been involved in the sports environment for over 20 years.
Mary Ann Dove
Mary Ann graduated from the University of Cape Town with an honours degree in Sport Science and has 20 years business consulting, leadership development, project management, facilitation, lecturing and coaching experience. She is currently studying for an MSc in Exercise Science through UCT. In addition, she has a Certificate in Coaching from USB and Psychology III from UNISA. She has experience in a number industries, in particular financial and professional services, media and marketing, mining, education and sport. Her particular passion is to develop people so that they are able to achieve their own potential and performance levels.
Some highlights of her sporting experience include establishing and managing the Olympic Career Opportunities Programme, project managing the 2004 Athens Olympics mental preparation programme and Olympic training camp, mentoring talented young athletes, conducting research into the effectiveness of the Olympic high performance programme and delivering talks to parents and coaches on their role in assisting children to develop skills for long-term performance in sport and life. She has served as a member of the Olympic Foundation, Manager of the Southern Gauteng women’s hockey team and other team management positions.
Mary Ann is still a very active, but less competitive sportswoman partaking in half marathons, cycle races, tennis, swimming and in 2009 successfully summitted Mount Kilimanjaro.
